Workstudy

All students training under Chapters 30, 31, 34, 35, and 1605 VA education programs and who have been certified for 3/4 time enrollment or more are eligible to apply for the VA Workstudy Program. Students may work up to 450 hours in a term, and receive $6.25/hour (tax exempt as a VA benefit). To apply, students fill out an application in one or more of the following participating offices:

Workstudy Position

Background

The VA Work-Study program is designed to assist eligible veterans in attaining their educational objective by providing VA paid work experience in a supervised learning environment.

Eligibility

To participate in the program, the veteran must be enrolled under the Vocational Rehabilitation Program (Chapter 31) or under one of the G.I. Bill programs (Chapters 30,32,35 or 106) and attending school on at least 3/4 time.

Minimum Qualifications

It is important the student intern possess good written and oral communication skills and working knowledge of computers.

Duties

Under close supervision from the Staff Services Manager, the Student will provide support by answering telephone calls and performing public assistance; assist with Veterans Benefit Awareness Program by compiling mailing lists of veterans, processing requests for information such as mailing applications for benefits offered by the department and assist professional staff in promoting the veteran's "License Plate" and "Welcome Home Letter Program" effectively, through public relations. This includes replying to inquiries from various organizations. The Student may also perform other duties as required.

Training

The student will be provided on-the-job training in the use of an IBM compatible using MS Word, Outlook and Excel software.

Salary

The student pay rate is currently at the state minimum $6.75 per hour. Hours can be flexible according to the school-schedule. PLEASE NOTE THAT PAY RATE IS NON-TAXABLE. YOU MUST TURN IN A SCHOOL SCHEDULE EVERY SEMESTER/QUARTER.
