The California State Legislature established a fee waiver program for California residents sixty years of age and older to enroll for classes on a space available basis on the CSU campuses. At Sacramento State the Sixty Plus Fee Waiver program allows students to enroll in classes without unit restrictions for credit or as an auditor and as an undergraduate or graduate student.
Campus Notes:
The 60+ Fee Waiver Coordinator will be conducting a Registration Procedures Orientation, in place of the former “Phoenix Club” meetings on Friday, August 15, 2008. This should be a helpful and informative Power Point presentation, particularly for our new (and continuing) students regarding procedures and methods of class registration via the Web. All current and prospective students are welcome to join us. Specific times and the location will be mailed with the registration materials and instructions in mid-July.
Applications:
New students and those who have not attended Sacramento State for two or more consecutive semesters must submit both the CSU Online Application for Admission and the Sixty Plus Fee Waiver application available at the Admissions and Records Service Counter to Reentry Services. You may also call the “60+” Program Coordinator at (916) 278-5774 if you wish this form mailed to you. The application fee is waived. Students who are presently attending Sacramento State need only submit the single page Sixty Plus Fee Waiver application.
Student Eligibility:
Students must be sixty years or older by September 20th for Fall and by January 25th for Spring. Documentation of age must be presented with the applications. This may be a copy of a driver's license, passport or birth certificate and must be verified by a Sacramento State staff member. No age verification is necessary for prior Sacramento State students. Students must be California residents for at least one year prior to September 20th for Fall and January 25th for Spring; consequently, the residence portion of your CSU On-line application must be completed.
On-Application Deadlines
Both applications noted above must be completed in advance of class registration. For Graduate and Undergraduate students enrolling for credit, the deadlines for applying to the Sixty Plus Fee Waiver Program and Sacramento State are the same dates. It is advisable to apply during November for Fall and August for Spring. For application deadlines check the Admissions page on this website.

Documentation
Applications
-
CSU Online Application for Admission - complete all questions including the section on residence. Include your signature.
Sixty Plus Fee Waiver paper application - with age verification and signature.
Transcripts
- Credit enrollment: Request official transcripts for all colleges attended. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted with the application, but send official transcripts as soon as possible. Graduate students submit official transcripts directly to the Graduate Studies Office. Those who have fewer than 60 transferable college units must also submit official high school transcripts. Previously matriculated Sacramento State students who have not completed additional academic work do not need to submit transcripts.
- Audit enrollment: No transcripts are necessary.
Fees
The registration fee is $3.00 per semester including the summer sessions. This fee does not cover books, lab fees or parking. Each semester, payment information will be mailed approximately one month before classes begin. The registration fee should not be included with your applications.
Registration
This is a space available program which often limits registration and class availability. Sixty Plus students usually register much later in the registration cycle. Sixty Plus Audit students usually register on the first day of instruction providing there is room in the class or with permission from the instructor. Registration information will be mailed approximately one month before classes begin.
Auditors
Students may not enroll to audit participation classes, e.g. kinesiology (activity classes) and art classes other than art history.
Definition of Space Available
Students may not enroll in courses that are designed specifically for independent study courses (numbered199 and 299).
Changing Status
When changing from audit to credit, submit a new CSU On-line Application for Admission plus obtain transcripts from all colleges attended.
